Kids Say the Darndest Things: Marshamallow

34
Once again posting a story about my neice, Isabel. She is now “2 point 5″ as her math-teacher Daddy taught her to say. At this age, the discovery of language is acute, and the articulation of thoughts into new-found words becomes fodder for some of the funniest moments of our lives. In shorter words, oh the things kids say.

My sister Esther (Isabel’s mommy) and my brother-in-law Daniel (Esther’s husband) have been praying with Isabel before bedtime since she was an infant. They teach her simple prayers, and expand this nightly ritual as her intellectual capacity expands. A few weeks ago, they felt she was ready to be introduced to listening for the voice of God, not just taking requests to him.

Esther explained to Isabel that God wants to talk to us too, just like we want to talk to him. So after saying regular prayers, they were going to wait, and be still and quiet, listening to see if God said anything. Isabel seemed to understand, so they commenced with the nightly prayers. Upon completion, they instructed her it was time to wait quietly and listen to hear if God says something. The room was quiet as the little family waited, and listened.

Not 30 seconds later, Isabel’s cheery voice piped up from under the sheets. “Mommy, Dod sed sumping to me!”

Surprised, but encouraged and hoping for one of those priceless insights children have into the Kingdom of Heaven, Esther asked, “Yes, Isabel, what did He say?”

Without a moment’s hesitation, Isabel answered emphatically, “He sed you need to gib me a mosh mallow!”

While it wasn’t heavenward, it was a priceless insight! What a blessing these children are in our lives to keep us laughing and focused on what really matters.
