One of my sister's husbands told me several years ago that he felt it was one of his primary responsibilities as her husband to help her become all she was created to be.
I think of how many people enter marriage intending to change certain things about their spouse, to fit their own preferences, and am amazed at the gift he gave her.
I have seen her change not only for the better, but also achieve things, and become ways, that I saw deep inside her as a little girl, but hadn't blossomed yet. To think he is graciously helping her do so. What more could I ask for my sister?!
His comment inspired me to love my husband in ways that would give him the same gift. That's unfortunately not always the perspective with which I've viewed my husband, and changing that perspective makes a world of difference.
When I have children, I pray to have the same perspective as their mother. Not to help them "turn out okay" or "be good kids", but to discover and become what God created them to be.
