Explosion

34

I'm pretty bold, wearing white shorts while caring for an infant. But I usually make it through the day unscathed, save some spit up on my shoulder.

Of course today would be a day in which Jax pooped unnoticed (he was in his car seat in the car, so I didn't hear him taking care of business like I usually would if he was closer to me)...

And it leaked...
And I didn't notice...
And I set him down on my lap while we were at a restaurant.

We also go out to eat only about once a month, so this was a great confluence of odds: in public, white pants, unnoticed poop, poop explosion. An explosion of unusual events. It gets better.

I go to the bathroom to change him, and realize his outfit has got to go. I always keep a spare outfit in the diaper bag. Except just this afternoon, I decided to wash all the outfits and blankets in the diaper bag, and forgot to replenish them before we went out to dinner. Thankfully I DID have wipes and a cute blue cloth diaper in the bag. But I wasn't about to walk around the restaurant carrying a baby in only a diaper. I have a "mommy bag" inside the diaper bag, with personal items and a blouse, in the event of me needing a clean shirt. It was a grey tank top with lace on the front. I turned it inside out to hide the lace. Then I knotted the long straps behind his neck, and bunched it up over his diaper so it looked more like a shirt than a dress. Of course he was wearing his amber necklace, so he did kind of look like a girl. But the diaper is blue!

Isn't it like this though? You're always prepared. He never poops on you. You rarely go out to eat. Then the one day you're out in public, wearing white pants, and his poop explodes on you. It should be expected, really. I was testing the forces of nature by wearing white, and nature won.

Oh, did I mention it rained while we were in the restaurant? Have you ever noticed how often it rains in movies when something bad or sad is happening? My life is like the movies.

I'm so glad these moments just make me laugh. Here we are, laughing at the restaurant with Jax wearing my shirt/dress and eating my hair. I love being a mommy.
