Night before last, and yesterday, it was "muh muh muh muh." Last night after his bath, he added "buh buh buh." And this morning it has been everything together. "Muh muh buh muh buh buh mum mum buh." Over and over and over and over again.
The last two weeks have been a lot of screaming. Not crying screaming, but vocalizing, yelling. A lot of "ahhhhh!!!!" sounds so loud it's hard to have conversation when he's around. I guess that was the vocalizing that comes before phonetic sounds. It feels like an overnight explosion of language. Distinct, shaped sounds that belong in the English language, have suddenly substituted themselves for the loud, constant yell.
I am reminded of this excellent TED video (well worth the twenty minutes) where researcher Deb Roy follows the development of his son's language over several months, plotting which words developed in which rooms of the house, in which order, etc. A very good view, as many TED videos are.
And in other sleep news, last night Jax slept from 7:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. without nursing once. He woke at midnight, coughed/cried lightly for about thirty seconds, and went back to sleep. Then he slept right through the 5:00 a.m. feeding he's been doing for the last week, and slept eleven hours total. I slept about nine and a half of those hours, and am so proud of my little boy who has learned to sleep well!
