I must begin this post by telling you that I can be a total dork sometimes. Today, involving our outfits and poses, is one of those days. As long as I am only a dork every so often, I can kind of enjoy it. That is my disclaimer.
I am a musician, and I sing. Everyone in my immediate family is also a musician and singer, most of them, both. Benjamin really has a pleasant voice as well, although with vocal training. So we plan to do some kind of music with each of our children as they grow. I am open to them experimenting with different instruments, and hope each one latches onto at least one instrument that they love and continue to play into adulthood.
So when I saw this romper at a yard sale, despite the fact that it was so small it was unlikely Jax would wear it more than once, I had to buy it. (And twenty five cents isn't a bad price either).
So I went a bit funky with my outfit today too. I know that popular musicians tend to wear all kinds of crazy things, especially if they are any kind of pop or rock musician. I can't get as crazy as they do, but this is the kind of crazy I WILL get.
We have the San Antonio Spurs basketball team in town, so someone bought me this shirt a few years ago to wear during basketball season (because I refuse to wear jerseys). So when I went to my closet today to assemble my version of a toned-down rocker, this shirt was first in my mind. Black. With bling.
I wasn't sure what to pair with it, but was trying to pull in the grey that Jax had on, so I reached for my grey leggings. Since I believe in covering up my tush when wearing leggings, I went hunting for shorts or a skirt. However, short skirts were in my past life as a high school / early college student, and have been cleared out of my closet for years since I have reached an era of increased maturity and modesty in my apparel. Thankfully for this outfit, in my sister's closet, who is a sophomore in college, short skirts are to be found in abundance.
A couple weeks ago at church, a woman about my age, who is from California, visited her parents, who live here and attend our church. She is a tall girl, and has a daughter about four years old.
She was wearing a white tank top, loosely wrapped turquoise scarf, grey leggings, and a black TUTU. So in searching my sister's closet, I was vaguely hunting for something tutu-like. I found a lacy short pink skirt that was close enough. But I tried it on and realized, I'm not in California. I'm in Texas. And I haven't seen any grown women with children wearing tutus. So I put it away to look for something milder. I decided upon this denim skirt with a bit of ruffle to it.
Then there's my shoes. Oh how I love these shoes. I have worn them many times to work with a black skirt and white blazer. They're sassy but surprisingly comfy. Now, I have to tell the truth and say that I won't be wearing these shoes all day long. They're just for pictures. I don't usually do that, but I wanted to today. So you can imagine me in my trusty black Crocs flip flops, cause that's what will be on my feet going forward. But I had to show you these shoes.
So here I am, a silly, dorky girl in a wanna-be rockstar-ish outfit, who can't even do a peace sign very well, wearing awesome polka dot espadrilles, and holding a baby who already knows how to fist pump. Rock on.
