Jax Seven Months | Cheery Personality

Dear Jax,

Some things I want to remember from your sixth month...

You FINALLY gained weight!  From three months old to six months old, you weighed 19.7 lbs.  You did gain an inch of length in that time.  This past month, you spent two weeks nursing like crazy, where I thought perhaps my supply was drying up because you just couldn't get enough and were always hungry.  But then I weighed you today, and you weigh 20 lbs 4 oz.  Ah ha!  Then I measured you, and you are 30 1/2 inches long! So you look thinner than you did a few months ago, because you've gained more in length than you have in weight.  It gives your features more definition.  Some days I look at you and gasp - you are a mini-me of your Daddy!  Other days, I see so much of myself in you.

You are still alllll----moooost crawling.  You go up and down on all fours, rocking, rocking back and forth.  If you want to reach something in front of you, you launch yourself forward onto your belly with a giant plop.  If you're still to far away, you go back up onto all fours, rocking, rocking, then dive forward again with all your strength.  It's pretty hysterical.  Soon you will get the coordination of all your limbs the way you want to so badly.  You cry out of frustration sometimes.  You practice the movements all day long, but you just can't get it all together yet.  Soon, soon, my little one.

You are making and mimicing more sounds.  When people around are talking, you pay attention.  You listen, watching their mouth make shapes, watching their face make expressions.  You learned the "eeeee" sound this month.  You still say "muh" and "buh" and "mum" and "bum" and various combinations, but they are less frequent.  You're focusing this month on "eeeeh", "ghee", and "deee."  I've been calling you "ghee ghee dhee ghee" as a nickname.

You also mimicing singing.  While I'm nursing you to sleep at night, I sing to you.  Sometimes you pull away from nursing to sing along, sweet soft "aaaahhhh" sounds.  Sometimes you stay latched on and hum in a sing-song way at the same time.  Just in the last few days, you have mimiced the sounds your toy cars make when we drive them around you.  "Vrooom!  Mmmmmm  Roooomm!"  You make gutteral "mmm's" when we play cars with you, mimicing the sounds we make.  I was in shock the first time you did it.  You are so smart!

You've also been doing a lot of yelling.  Sometimes it seems you are just making noise for the fun of it.  Other times you are upset, or bored, or tired, or want someone to come play with you.  You can be so loud!  It definitely gets the attention of those around you.

You have been investigating your hands and feet this month.  I've watched you twisting your wrists and flicking your fingers slowly, watching their every movement.  And you finally started putting your feet in your mouth too.

We bought a rug for our living room floor, and rearranged the room, so that you could have a softer place to play (and fall down).  I love being able to sit down with you and roll a ball back and forth between us.

We visited your cousins Sebastian and Piper in Houston.  Sebastian loved to tickle your cheeks.  Piper loved to share toys with you.  She still calls you, "Baby Duck," because that's as close as she can get to "Baby Jax."

You've been eating bits of solids all month now.  My milk is still 98% of your food intake, but you're enjoying exploring new things in your mouth.  Your current favorites are egg yolk, pumpkin, applesauce, and banana.  It's made changing your cloth diapers a new and exciting experience.

You have SO much personality and are so incredibly happy nearly all the time.  I still feel so amazed by this.  I've been around a lot of babies, but they seem like babies to me.  Cute, cuddly, babbling, lovable babies.  It wasn't until having my own, seeing you moment by moment, that I have discovered what little personalities babies have.  By the time you were two months old, I feel you became interactive.  Since then, it's only become more so.  I have really been in shock that a child so young is so interactive and has so much personality.  I guess it's not something I've been able to observe in other people's children, since it's more subtle when you're not around the baby all the time.

Your Daddy and I talk once a week about how amazed we are at what an awesome son you are.  I feel like I won the kid lottery.

Your Daddy and I have now been married for ten years!  You will mark your decades of life the same years we mark the decades of our marriage.  What a privilege it is to be your parents, to pray over you daily, to try to become what the Lord needs us to be to raise you in His footsteps.

With all my love,

Your Mommy
