A Moon Rocket to Cardigan City + Scarf Land

He was wearing soft brown suede moccasins, but they came off earlier and were too hard to get back on.

My mom and I went thrift store shopping a couple days ago, and I found these awesome peachy pink cords and a pair light grey jeans for winter.  Super excited, as my pant collection is slim outside of dry-clean-only work slacks.  Last winter I was pregnant.  I was looking though my closet the other day, wondering where I put my super-cute grey cords I wore so often last year.  Then I remembered.  They are maternity pants.  And packed away of course.

Colored jeans are all the rage, but I haven't found any yet that aren't skinny.  And skinny jeans make me feel claustrophobic.  Like my legs are being swallowed by a boa constrictor.  I'm not a fan.  Leggings I can tolerate, because they are soft and supple.  But I still think they look odd on me unless I'm wearing boots.  The whole skinny pant, bare ankle, cute flats look, seems to only work on girls with small feet.  I end up looking like I've got tiny masts coming out of giant sailboats.

All that to say, I feel like these colored cords for three bucks were a definite score.

Jax has been crawling up a storm and getting into things.  My bathroom trashcan is now sitting on top of the commode.  My office trashcan is on top of the printer, along with the recycle bin.

I'm having to figure out how much of a mess to let him make of harmless things.  The low shelf with his shirts on it gets unfolded and refolded a couple times a day.  The box of extra clothes in my closet gets tipped over a couple times a day. The bin of extra toilet paper rolls in the bathroom gets emptied.  And on and on.  My Bradley class instructor called it the "trashcan on the counter" stage.  So true.

I've obviously moved everything that HE can harm (costume jewelry in little boxes, a bin of papers waiting to be scanned).  And everything that can harm HIM (plastic bags, trash, my camera tripod always set up so I can take outfit photos easily).  But the rest of it?

Another friend recently posted this on Facebook, "Okay kids, go play play dough in the dining room so I can clean the kitchen. Now go take a bath so I can clean the play dough. Now go play in your rooms so I can clean the inch of water off the floor. Now go play in the special room downstairs with the padded walls and nothing else while I clean your rooms... If only."

I am unwilling (yet) to resign myself to an always-messy house, so I'm going to keep my creative juices going for solutions that will work at our house.  Every person has their boundaries of how much mess they can tolerate...cleaning or ignoring.  I can tolerate more than my mom, but less than a lot of other moms I know.  Other people's houses are their business, but I have to find a balance for my own home that works for all of us.  I know it won't be long before Jax will be old enough to help clean his messes, and that day will be welcome.

In the fall, and even winter, my outfits tend to feel like one day of cardigans and scarves after another.  People used to come up to me at church, wearing a scarf, and say they were trying to look like me that day.  I think I might be cold-blooded by nature.  Being pregnant was great for keeping me warm, and breastfeeding helps too.  But the thing about San Antonio, is you can't just wear a real sweater until maybe January.  The rest of the time, you better be wearing layers.  Because you're gonna have to strip them off come the afternoon.

So I own cardigans in every color and am always collecting more.  And if my outfits start to feel like shirt, cardigan, scarf, pants,  - rinse and repeat in various colors, I apologize in advance. At least we can all enjoy seeing my baby's beautiful smile every day.  No one minds repeating smiles.
