Not the Bag Lady

34

It's beginning to be sort of cool around here. Yesterday (no outfit photos) I put on a tank top and shorts, and actually had to change into pants after testing the outdoor wind.  The tank stayed put though, with no additional layers.  Good thing I own orange shorts AND orange pants.

On Black Friday, I took my Tita and two of my sisters to the thrift store.  My sister Mercy graciously wore Jax in the baby carrier the entire excursion. I got to shop, and help my Tita shop, baby-free.  AND that morning I slept in until NINE THIRTY A.M. because my husband took care of Jax.  When I woke up, Jax was already asleep in his crib for his morning nap.  So many people who love me!

Our favorite local thrift store was having half-off the entire store on black friday.  My Tita is as much of a thrifting addict as I am, or perhaps I am as much of a thrifting addict as she is, since I probably get it from her.  She had nearly two cartloads of clothing and gifts, and still made it out the door with less than $90 out of pocket.

I picked up this shirt and this bag/purse.  I change purses twice a year.  I use them daily until their life is spent, and they are hardly good for a yard sale.  They usually go straight to the garbage bin.  I'm grateful that as much as I like clothes and shoes and accessories, I'm not a bag lady.  I'll never be the girl with the Coach or Prada or Juicy bag that cost more than a car payment.  It's a good thing, because I don't need one more thing to spend money on.

I don't change purses to match my outfits.  At the beginning of the summer, and beginning of the winter, I select a purse with a semi in-season color scheme, and use it all winter, or all summer.  My summer purse is full of ink stains and sticky residue from melted granola bars.  I'm not sure this one qualifies as a winter color scheme.  But I'm beginning to realize that a lot of winter clothes lack color.  So I'm making sure wherever I go, I've got some color on, a la - my purse.  I used to get my purses from Ross, but lately I'm thrifting pretty much everything.

So I'm not gonna be the girl with a style blog that includes bags to match every outfit.  Just today.  Because it's new, and it just so happened to match my outfit.

Also, please ignore the poofy hair on the left side of my head.  I didn't look in the mirror before taking these photos.  Which is why I didn't remember I was still sporting bed-head.

I love the sweet little elephant on his overalls.  And I love that when I zoomed in to crop this photo, I can see that our fists are mirror images of each other.  Except mine don't have adorable knuckle dimples.

My black Friday shopping was primarily for Christmas and birthday gifts for family.  I scored a few deals that are making me bounce around with excitement (otherwise known as jumping for joy).  Today I'm having a seriously hard time not busting out the news to everyone around because I just can't believe I got THAT for THAT PRICE which means I still have money to spend on special family members!  A lot of our family's birthdays fall in the winter as well, so we do a lot of shopping this time of year.  I'm always grateful when my Christmas bonus hits the bank in mid December!

There's something really special about shopping for the perfect gift for someone you dearly love.
