9 Weeks - Grape Tomato

Dear Beta,

This week you are the size of a grape (or grape tomato in our photo!), and you have taken the distinct shape if a miniature infant.  Your heart is now separating into chambers.  You are fully enclosed in the amniotic sac and the placenta is now supporting you fully.

Every Sunday night, your Daddy and I have a family staff meeting.  We review appointments and tasks for the week.  Since we found out about you, we have to our meeting looking at images and stories that tell us how you are growing each week.  Tonight, we looked at sonograms and digitally-animated videos about babies your age.  We were in shock to see that you can already swim, flip, punch your fists, kick your feet, and even dance!  To say we are happy you are in our lives would be an extreme understatement.

This week I read a new research project that proves you can taste what I eat!  You are drinking amniotic fluid, which they have proved is permeated with the tastes and smells of the food I consume.  Even better, the research said that babies tend to like the foods their mommies ate during pregnancy.

I thought you should know what I’ve been feeding you for the last seven weeks, because I hope you love it, and keep loving it when you arrive.  You have tasted many kinds of fruit, cheese, corn tortillas, rice, beans, chicken, fish, salad, eggs, yogurt, nuts, fresh and steamed vegetables, and generally wholesome foods.  You won’t ever taste coffee, soda, or fast food.  You’ve had a few sips of chocolate-flavor, but not too often!  You have eaten several unusual foods as well, such as tofu, soy milk, Asian curry, coconut milk, and maybe even some Indian spices.  Oh, and lots of unpleasant-tasting herbs and vitamins that are helping my body, and your body, be strong and healthy.  Sorry about those flavors!

This past week, your future bedroom was emptied of your Aunt Priscilla’s things.  The sound of my feet walking into the empty space sent pitter-patter echoes through the room and adjoining hall.  It is a bright room, and your Aunt Priscilla kept it clean and peaceful.  The feeling in the room is gentle and quiet.  She has prepared this room for you by spending many years praying and reading Scripture there, dedicating herself, and her space, to the Lord.  It is a good heritage for you to make a home in.

I pray that your heart and spirit would capture some of her heart and spirit that remains in that room, because it is a sweet, Godly, beautiful one.

Here are some beautiful things about your developing heart that I am praying for you this week.

“The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”  (1 Samuel 16:7)

“But be sure to fear the LORD and serve Him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things He has done for you.” (1 Samuel 12:24)
